The new government is hoping to bring in legislation concentrating on improving the nation’s mental health and their well-being. What with the now distant lockdowns, enforced absences from school and social media pressures our children especially have had to adapt to very trying times. The current state of the nation and indeed globally have only added to those pressures.
Accordingly we are proud to have linked up recently with the NHS East Kent Hospitals Mental Health Awareness campaign and appeared in their latest publication.
The publication is full of interesting and educational content to raise the profile of this common issue and to highlight the range of support services available. Support from a legal perspective could include applying for a Lasting Power of Attorney. The Attorney would be able to make decisions on someone’s behalf, in relation to their property and financial affairs and/or in respect of their health and welfare needs, should they lose mental capacity.
In a similar vein, in cases where the person already lacks the mental capacity to make their own decisions, Kingsfords can apply for you to become someone’s Deputy approved by the Court of Protection.
The person may lack capacity because, for example, they may be suffering from mental health issues, dementia, or have had a serious brain injury or illness. As before, once appointed as a Deputy, you can make decisions in their best interest in respect of their financial and health needs.
